Motor City Corvette Concours Press Release

Michigan, home of the Big Three, will be adding to its automotive resume’ this fall with the debut of the Motor City Corvette Concours. This inaugural event will be billed as the “Best of the Best” of Corvette shows. The organizers goal is to model this event after other prestigious car shows such as; Meadowbrook, Monterey and Amelia Island. The chosen date is September 18, 2010 and the location will be Les Stanford Chevrolet-Cadillac in Dearborn, Michigan.
Anyone familiar with the Corvette lifestyle is no doubt aware of events such as; Corvettes at Carlisle, Bloomington Gold and the National Corvette Homecoming to name but a few. Being that Michigan is the birthplace of Corvette and the home of Chevrolet and General Motors, it seemed only natural that a high caliber Corvette event be held here. Hence, the Motor City Corvette Concours was born.
While the Motor City Corvette Concours (MCCC) will be sponsored and hosted by the Les Stanford dealerships, the event will be presented by several local Michigan Corvette clubs. The Corvette Club of Michigan, Corvette Legends Club, Flint Corvette Club, GMC Corvette Set, Trend Settas Corvette Club, Rainbow Corvette Club, Team Corvette, and the V-8 Estate Corvette Club have banded together to promote and share their passion for the Corvette and so write another chapter in the glorious history that is the Corvette.
The Motor City Corvette Concours will actually be three car shows in one. First feature of the event will include a Concours Class of Corvettes; these cars will appear via invitation only. Second, will be an open judged competition for all Corvette owners based on overall vehicle condition and cleanliness. Third will be an NCCC sanctioned People’s Choice competition. The MCCC will be open to all Corvettes, ranging from showroom stock to personalized custom to resto-mod. The emphasis for this end of the season gathering will be on having the “Best of the Best” Corvettes featured in an invitation only Concours Class. To qualify, these Corvettes will have to compete in a minimum of three approved shows through-out the spring and summer show season. These cars will be chosen by organizers of the sanctioned shows and recommended to compete in the MCCC Concours Class.
Working in concert with the National Corvette Museum, the organizers of the MCCC have developed the  Arkus-Duntov Cup Trophy, named in honor of the first Corvette Chief Engineer and father of the Corvette: Zora Arkus-Duntov. Each year the overall winners name will be affixed to the Arkus-Duntov Cup Trophy and it will be displayed at the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Kentucky adjacent to their permanent Arkus-Duntov exhibit. A unique Motor City Corvette Concours special award will also be presented to the Concours Class winner for his or her personal trophy case. All Concours Class entrants will receive a personalized special recognition award for their participation. Additional trophies will be presented for the Judged Competition and People’s Choice portions of the event. Please visit the MCCC website at: www.motorcitycorvetteconcours.com for additional information.

Motor City Corvette Concours - Judging
Concours Judging – Showroom Stock, Personalized Custom & Resto-mod
This level is for participants who show their vehicle as their main emphasis. They may use a trailer to transport their Corvette to each show. They tend to drive their Corvette on a very limited basis. They have spared no expense and have put a lot of their time and effort into their presentation. The judging will survey all aspects of the vehicle. Mirrors will be used for close inspection of the under carriage. Entrants in this group will also be subject to a technical inspection. The car must be driven into position on the day of the show. The awards will be enhanced in recognition of the high level of achievement in this grouping of Corvette classes.                     Concours level cars will be presented by invitation only.

Generations within this level of Judging:

C1 - 1953 through 1962
C2 - 1963 through 1967
C3 - 1968 through 1982
C4 - 1984 through 1996
C5 - 1997 through 2004
C6 - 2005 through Present

Drive & Shine Judging – Showroom Stock, Personalized Custom & Resto-mod
This level is for participants that drive their Corvette frequently. They maintain their vehicles appearance regularly and perform all mechanical repairs as needed. The judging will survey most aspects of the vehicle: engine compartment, interior, exterior, trunk and or storage area. The only part of the under carriage that will be judged is that which is visible within the wheel wells. The only preliminary inspection here will verify that the vehicle is on the road frequently. This will insure that driven vehicles will compete against other driven vehicles and not those that are in the Concours level. Entrants in this group will also be subject to a technical inspection. Awards will be of standard size and stature.

People’s Choice Awards
This level is a “Personal Choice” type of judging that involves the entrants and spectators choosing the vehicles they like the best among the various vintages of Corvettes. The only distinction will be the year or generation of the Corvette. Each entrant and spectator will be allowed to choose one Corvette from each of the generations listed below for their ballot. This portion of the show will be NCCC sanctioned.                  (Sanction # MI-006-009)

Motor City Corvette Concours - Classes

Definition of Classes

Showroom Stock: Corvette is of same general appearance when it left the dealer showroom as a brand new vehicle. Condition should be the same or better.

Personalized Custom: Corvette has been altered or modified to reflect the taste of its owner. Range of customizing can be from mild to wild.

Resto-Mod: Corvette appears stock upon first look, however it is what is underneath that determines the car as a “resto-mod”. Example: car appears as a C2, however engine, drive-train and some interior components are from a C5.
